Oakland Port Worker Killed In California Truck Accident

May 20, 2013 A 78-year-old longshoreman from San Francisco has died as the result of a | California Truck Accident that occurred in Oakland last week. Reports indicate the incident happened on Friday afternoon near the TraPac Terminal located along 7th Street in the Port of Oakland. According to an article from CBS-SF Bay Area, the 47-year employee of the port was in the vehicle assisting with the movement of cargo shipping containers when the vehicle was knocked into the water by an object or piece of equipment. The worker was unable to escape the vehicle before it sank to the ocean floor. Rescue crews were able to attach cables to the sunken vehicle in order to pull it to the surface. Only then were first responders able to recover the body of the victim and declared him dead at the scene of the accident. Investigators say they are continuing to look into what contributing factors may have played a part in the accident and if it could have been prevented. KTVU News reports the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday along southbound Highway 101, near the Cesar Chavez Street exit.
